Event

Since 2019, Abdullah Gül University and Sabanci University have collaborated to create a Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) program with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Ankara. This program helps graduate students planning a career in academia advance their teaching skills. The program we designed is based on well-established PFF programs in the United States, such as those at the University of Kentucky and the University of Colorado.

In collaboration with Dr. David Sacks from the University of Kentucky, we would like to invite you to an event. The program will include information about our PFF Turkey program and a workshop from our collaborator on teaching in higher education.

Bio for Dr. David Sacks

Dr. Sacks earned a PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Cincinnati in 2008. His dissertation looked at the impact of teaching students how to learn. Based on his graduate program he was afforded the opportunity to develop a career as either a tenure track faculty member or educational development. He selected educational development and has been very happy ever since. Shortly after he started at the University of Kentucky in the Teaching and Academic Support Center (TASC) he got involved with the POD Network. Dr. Sack has an extended volunteer career with the POD Network, the national organization for educational developers. In the past 14 years with the organization he has chaired two committees, organized the national conference, served on both the board of directors and the Executive Committee in his role as chair of the Finance Committee. Most importantly he started a division within the organization for Healthcare Educational Developers and he spent a great deal of time considering how to create interprofessional educational opportunities. Dr. Sacks teach “College Teaching” each semester for the University of Kentucky Preparing Future Faculty Program.

The application must be submitted by September 1, 2022. Early submission is strongly encouraged as the event coordinators need planning time for the event.

4Do you provide financial support to attend this event?

We do not have funding available to support our participants, for travel and/or for accommodation.

5Do I receive a certificate if I attend the event?

We can issue a certificate of completion upon successful participation in the event. Please let us know if you would like to receive a certificate. It will be issued by Abdullah Gul University, Center for Learning & Teaching & Foundations Development Directorate of Sabancı University.
